The strategy game Endless Legend is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Steam in 2024. Due to a promotion by the developer, it is currently heavily discounted and even available for free. This has led to a new player record for the title.

What kind of game is it? Endless Legend is a turn-based 4X strategy game, falling into a category similar to games like Civilization. While Civilization is based on our real world, with some creative liberties, Endless Legend transports you to the planet Auriga, threatened by a mysterious catastrophe.

So, not only do you have to build, develop, and expand your own civilization, but you also have to save the world in the process.

Endless Legend was released on September 18, 2014, on Steam, where it enjoys a rating of "Very Positive" with 84% recommendations. This places it as the 4th highest-rated 4X game on Steam (as of January 20, 2024).

What are the player numbers like? In December 2023, Endless Legend had an average of 156 players, with a peak of 329. This is not unusual for a nearly 10-year-old game. What's more surprising is that the much newer Endless Dungeon from 2023 barely has more players (via SteamDB).

In the last 30 days, Endless Dungeon averages over 2,000 players. In the early hours of Saturday morning, it even set a new player record with 88,785 simultaneous players. The previous peak was 10,429 simultaneous players in April 2015 (via Steamcharts).

Where does the growth come from? It's likely due to a special promotion by the developer, Amplitude Studios. Until January 25, 2024, Endless Legend is discounted by 80% and available for just €4.99 on Steam.

But wait, didn't the title mention "free"? Indeed, at the moment, you can add the strategy game to your Steam library without paying anything.
