"AstrHori Unveils 25mm f/2.8 2x-5x Ultra-Macro Lens for Full-Frame Cameras
On January 18, 2024, AstrHori introduced an exciting addition to its lineup, the 25mm f/2.8 2x-5x macro lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The lens, compatible with E, X, RF, Z, and L mounts, boasts manual focus and provides a close-up perspective on small subjects.
The manual focus lens allows focusing as close as 113 millimeters in 2x mode, 137.8 mm in 3x, 162mm in 4x, and 186.4mm at 5x magnification. Users can control the magnification by rotating the lens barrel, extending it through a range of 102mm to 174mm. The lens barrel is marked with magnification details from 2x to 5x in 0.5x increments.
While the increase in length with higher magnification is standard for macro lenses, AstrHori's lens offers usability, particularly for video rigs, and reaches up to 5x magnification for an up-close experience with small subjects.
The lens features a textured focus ring for manual focus adjustment and a clicked aperture control ring ranging from f/2.8 to f/16. Despite the relatively bright minimum aperture of f/16 for a macro lens, AstrHori explains that due to the 25mm focal length, it can achieve a larger depth of field compared to similar macro lenses, potentially reducing the need for extensive focus stacking.
The lens comprises 10 elements across seven groups, incorporating two ED glass optics and high-refractive glass lenses. AstrHori emphasizes the lens's ability to deliver high-definition image quality and high resolution even at 5x magnification.
