Samsung has rolled out a host of new camera features and enhancements with its Galaxy S24 series, showcasing faster processors and robust NPUs. While these improvements are designed for the latest models, Samsung has confirmed that some of these innovations will extend to existing Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
In a recent update on its South Korea Community Forum, Samsung outlined the camera features making their way to older Galaxy devices. These include:
12MP Images from Motion Photos: Using AI-based upscaling, the Galaxy S24 can convert any frame from a Motion Photo into a detailed 12MP still image. This feature will be part of the One UI 6.1 update for other devices.
Continuity for Samsung Studio Video Editor: Samsung Studio, the revamped video editor, gains new capabilities such as altering video speed at different segments and cross-device syncing for editing. This feature will be available on select devices with the One UI 6.1 update.
Enhanced Image and Video Quality in Social Media Apps: HDR support for social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat, along with advanced camera features, will be accessible on devices newer than the Galaxy S24, utilizing Samsung's UniHAL+ structure.
Improved Single Take: The enhanced Single Take mode allows users to select their preferred camera (ultrawide, primary, zoom) and recognizes pets for better images and videos. This feature will be available on various Galaxy de
vices with the One UI 6.1 update.
Colorize Monochrome Images Using AI: One UI 6.1 introduces the ability to colorize black and white images using AI, though this feature is exclusive to devices from the Galaxy S24 onward.
While these updates bring exciting enhancements to older Galaxy devices, certain features showcased on the Galaxy S24 series won't extend to existing models. These include camera features dependent on the UniHAL+ structure, colorizing monochrome images, generative AI editing, Super HDR live preview, nightography for zoomed-in content, enhanced portrait videos using dual sensors, spatial and temporal video zoom, fast image capturing with near-zero shutter lag, professional shooting features, AI-based slow-motion, and variable playback speeds for videos. These advanced capabilities are reserved for the latest Galaxy S24 and subsequent models equipped with the necessary hardware.
As Samsung continues to innovate, users can anticipate an enriched camera experience, whether on the latest flagship or older Galaxy devices receiving these thoughtful updates through One UI 6.1.
